Old industrialized space
Old industrialized areas or old industrial areas are regions that were industrialized at an early stage , mostly due to the occurrence of raw materials , and today suffer particularly from the process of de-industrialization , i.e. the change to a service society . The steel and shipbuilding industries , the ( underground ) opencast mining , but also the textile and porcelain industries are particularly affected . Within an old industrialized area there is usually a strong monostructuring and the labor market is very one-sided. Since there is also a high proportion of large companies, structural problems in the dominant industries often lead to considerable job losses. The shortage of jobs in old industrial areas often leads to social problems, followed by emigration. Further consequences are problems with contaminated sites and many fallow areas. In addition, there is often a lack of educational and cultural facilities.
One possible way out of the crisis is to abandon the old structures and establish new growth industries and companies in the tertiary sector . The sometimes bad image of the old industrialized areas and the often narrow qualifications of the workforce are further problems that stand in the way of this reorientation.
