Hussar of the Magdeburg Hussar Command (1763)

The Magdeburg hussar command was a cavalry unit of the old Prussian army .

history

The unit was formed during the Seven Years' War in 1761, when Duke Ferdinand von Braunschweig , who served as a general in the Prussian army, set up a body hussar troop of 24 men under the command of a Rittmeister , which provided his personal protection as well as reporting services and the like Took over tasks.

After the end of the war, the Duke became governor of Magdeburg ; he kept his body hussars with him, but the unit was split up by Friedrich II : one half went to his younger brother Prince Heinrich of Prussia and from then on was available to him as his own bodyguard as the Rheinsberg Hussar Command . The other half remained with Duke Ferdinand.

Even after the Duke in 1766 his farewell had taken from the Prussian military, the Hussars troops remained and served from then on the respective incumbent governors of Magdeburg as Stabswache . During the War of the Bavarian Succession , the Magdeburg Hussar Command was temporarily reunited with its other half in 1778 and served Prince Heinrich as a reinforced body hussar division for the duration of the campaign. After the end of the war, the units were separated again in 1779 and returned to their respective garrisons. After the Prussian defeat against France in 1806, the Magdeburg Hussar Command was dissolved.

uniform

The original uniform consisted of red dolmanas with black fur jackets. After moving to Magdeburg, Duke Ferdinand gave the hussars blue and yellow outfits in the corporate colors of the state of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel ; They kept these uniforms in Brunswick even after the Duke left. In 1778/79, when they were temporarily merged with the Rheinsberg Hussar Command, they received red dolmans with brown fur jackets as a common uniform and then remained in this uniform until the unit was disbanded.
