The house is a listed building and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Center of the City of Salzburg and the old town protection zone.

history

Already in 1365 which is home to the tumber Hospital ( "against the Domherrnspital") mentioned, it was at that time on the Near Kai - from the Hospital of St. John in Stubenberg (chapter or Erhard Hospital, corner Kaigasse / Chiemseegasse), Hospital of the canons to Salzburg , the former Red Brotherhood Church (Salvatorkirche) and its sacristan house (Kaigasse 4 and 6) still exist , which form the southeast corner of the New Residence (remainder demolished around 1600 for the planned Erhard Cathedral).

The owner was the Salzburg provost Peter von Dorenperch. Other residents are a Margaret Schauchsgauin (mother of the pastor Heinrichs zu Gastein) and a Martin, archbishop's kitchen master and pastor at St. Ciriak. In 1371 the Archbishopric of St. Peter acquired the house, followed by Ulrich der Zelber zu Kaprun (1393), Bartholomä the Carpenter (1405), the Panderlerin (1434), a Chunrat (1442), Alerius Goldschmied (1463), Martin and Elspet Pandler (1468), Lukas Zeyringer, citizens of Salzburg (1473) and a citizen Stempfer (1481) have been handed down as residents.

In 1491 the Schneiderzeche, the Salzburg tailors ' guild , acquired the house and set up their guild house with a hostel for traveling journeyman , which existed for over 400 years until 1809. It was the only one of its kind in town, no other guild has a residence.

In 1809, after the end of the prince archbishopric and secularization , the surgeon Josef Reisenberger bought the house. After the Schönbrunn Peace , he named it the Gasthaus zum golden Frieden . As a result, Johann Trauner (1858), Johann Meindl (1874), Josef and Maria Elsenwenger (1879), Josef and Maria Pichler (1890), Johann and Maria Pahl (1894) and Josef and Anna Baumann (1903) were hoteliers .

In 1904, municipal councilor Josef Haubner, an honorary citizen of the city, acquired the house and named it Zur Weißen Taube. In 1944 part of the house was damaged by a bomb. In 1965 it was completely rebuilt inside. Today the house is run as the Altstadthotel Weisse Taube in the fifth generation of this family. It is a small 4-star hotel that is particularly characterized by its excellent location.

Construction

The wide, five-storey house with a gable roof is embedded in the façade of the Kaigasse and has a characteristic kink that follows the course of the alley, the former Salzachkai of the Middle Ages. A new building from the 1060s is connected to the inner courtyard of the Kaigasse – Pfeiffergasse block. The Kaigasse facade is massive with irregularly spaced strut windows with fins and is today simply baroque. The rooms, for example in the stairwell, still show the appearance of medieval architecture.
