The maximum diving depth was around 4,700 m, the weight around 80 tons. Ballast was carried in the form of a lead keel, which was thrown off to surface. Because of its large size, the submarine could not be stowed on board a ship as usual , but had to be towed to the scene by a tug .

It was involved in the recovery of the hydrogen bomb near Spain in 1966 and in filming for Jacques Cousteau .

In 1969 - thanks to this submersible - the research submarine Alvin , which had been lost a year earlier, was recovered from a depth of 1,580 m.

In 1970 the submersible was handed over to the Virginia Science Museum.
