Alutu a 2,335 meters high is stratovolcano in Ethiopia . It is located between the two lakes Zway and Mirrga (Langano) and consists of several chimneys along an alignment from north-northeast to south-southwest. It emerged rhyolitic and obsidian - lava flows that poured over all edges. The volcano's oldest dated eruption occurred 155,000 years ago. The last eruption around 2,000 years ago created obsidian lava flows. A strong fumarole activity has been recorded to this day. The volcano was the subject of a geothermal research program.
