The wingspan of the moth is 20 to 28 millimeters. The basic color of the forewings shows light brown to chestnut brown tones. The inner and outer transverse lines as well as the wavy and hem lines are white and clearly stand out from the ground. Ring and kidney defects are outlined in black-brown and white. The fringes on the forewings are alternately brown and white piebald. The hind wings without drawing are gray-brown. The abdomen is very narrow.

Caterpillar

Adult caterpillars are colored yellow-green. They have a white back line, interrupted white side back lines and side stripes, as well as numerous white spots that are distributed over the entire length of the body.

Geographical distribution and habitat

Alvaradoia disjecta occurs in eastern Spain and south-eastern France and colonizes warm, dry places where the caterpillar's food plant grows.

Way of life

The main flight time of the mostly nocturnal moths are the months of June and July. Whether specimens found at the end of August or the beginning of September belong to a second generation still needs to be clarified. At night they like to visit artificial light sources . The caterpillars feed on the leaves of gray santolina ( Santolina chamaecyparissus ).

Taxonomy

The first description of A. numerica by Boisduval in 1840 referred to a specimen from Corsica and the species name was at times incorrectly used for butterflies from mainland Spain. Further confusion arose within the genus as individual authors named different forms, geographical races, synonyms or subspecies . Only Zilli , Iuli and Fibiger arranged the genus in 2009 in the separate allopatric species Alvaradoia disjecta , Alvaradoia numerica , Alvaradoia deserti and Alvaradoia ornatula .
