Alvite is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northern Portugal .
Alvite is part of the Cabeceiras de Basto district in the Braga district . The municipality had an area of 7.6 km² and has 964 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Alvite and Passos were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Alvite e Passos . Alvite is the seat of this newly formed community.
