Amédée Pigeon
Amédée Pigeon (born January 22, 1851 in Paris , † 1905 there ) was a French journalist, art critic and writer.
Pigeon was the nephew of the historian Gaston Boissier .
As an art critic, Pigeon wrote mostly for the Gazette des Beaux-Arts ; a major focus of his topics were contemporary German and English art. Charles Blanc , the founder of this magazine, supported and encouraged him.
The purely journalistic work of Pigeon could be read almost exclusively in the newspaper “ Le Figaro ”. In 1876 Pigeon made his successful debut as a poet. Through the composer Paul Vidal , Pigeon made the acquaintance of some Parnassians . But the publisher Alphonse Lemerre also noticed him and included some of his poems in the later famous anthology Le Parnasse contemporain . Today Pigeon is also part of this literary association.
When the political situation eased after the Franco-Prussian War , Pigeon accepted a position as a lecturer in French at the University of Bonn . From there Jules Laforgue brought him to Berlin . Pigeon was then his successor as a " private teacher for French" with Augusta , the wife of the German Emperor Wilhelm I.
