America 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

América 2 ( América TV ; formerly Canal 2 ) is an Argentine television station from La Plata . Together with Telefe , Canal 13 , Canal 7 and Canal 9, it is one of the five stations whose programs can be received via antenna in a large part of the country (partly via other stations).

history

Canal 2 La Plata was founded in 1966 and soon became one of the most important broadcasters in the country due to its good reception in the neighboring city of Buenos Aires and its metropolitan area.

In 1987 it was taken over by the media entrepreneur Héctor Ricardo García , who also managed the newspaper Crónica , and renamed Teledos . A phase of commercial success followed until García withdrew in the same year due to differences with the shareholders. This was followed by another renaming to Tevedos , the success of the station waned .

In 1991 Eduardo Eurnekian took over the station and renamed it América 2 . Around him he built a media company called Multimedios América , which also included a number of radio broadcasters and a cable television company called Cablevisión . The measures also included the establishment of a broadcasting station in Buenos Aires in order to better cover the previously poorly reached areas of the metropolitan area.

In the second half of the 1990s, the station changed hands again and came to Carlos Ávila , who realigned the program with a focus on journalism and sports. In 2002 he went through a severe crisis, which was connected with the poor economic situation in the country and almost led to bankruptcy.

In 2005, America hit the headlines over a case of censorship when a politician's posts were removed from a popular humorous format called Televisión Registrada . The format, which was one of the broadcaster's most popular, then switched to Canal 13. In the same year, a news branch called América 24 was founded, which can be received across Latin America via cable and satellite.

Well-known programs

Well-known programs on the program are the news (“América Noticias”), the talk show Almorzando con Mirtha Legrand , the humor / zapping format RSM and the tabloid magazine Intrusos en el Espectáculo . Between 1995 and 1999, the well-known humor format Caiga Quien Caiga was broadcast on the station, which has now switched to Telefe.
