Canal 9 (called el nueve ) is an Argentine television station based in Buenos Aires . Since 2007 he has belonged to the international Latin American broadcasting group Albavisión of the Mexican-Guatemalan media entrepreneur Remigio Ángel González .

history

Canal 9 was the first private television station in Argentina and has been broadcasting since June 9, 1960, Argentina's national holiday. During its early years Canal 9 was partially owned by foreign companies and served as the Argentine broadcaster for ABC , CBS and NBC .

In 1963, radio announcer and media entrepreneur Alejandro Romay was appointed managing director. He acquired the shares previously held abroad, making Canal 9 the first private television broadcaster to be fully Argentine-owned.

In 1974, during Perón's third term , Canal 9 was taken over by the government and also operated as a state-owned broadcaster during the military dictatorship in Argentina . The station was re-privatized in 1984 and Romay became the owner again. Romay was one of the most important people in the Argentine media landscape. After the re-privatization, the channel called Canal 9 Libertad ("Freedom Channel 9").

From 1997, the transmitter for belonged Australian corporate group Prime Television . The appearance was redesigned and the name changed to Azul Televisión . But in the same year the owner changed again: 51% of the shares were bought by the Spanish Telefónica , which had already taken over the rival Telefe .

In 2002 the station went to a company headed by journalist and media entrepreneur Daniel Hadad . Renamed again to Canal 9 , it still broadcasts today and has been part of Albavisión since 2007.

Canal 9 broadcasts shows , news and series . In 2005 the popular entertainment program Showmatch started here , hosted by Marcello Tinelli . The program is now running on Canal 13 ( el trece ).
