Show match

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Showmatch is an Argentine game show that has been broadcast on television since 2005. Originally broadcast on Canal 9 , it switched to Canal 13 in 2006 . The show will be moderated by Marcelo Tinelli , whose production company Ideas del Sur also produces the show.

The show is the follow-up to the humor show Videomatch , but the concept has been heavily revised. Instead of humor as in the original broadcast, various competitions are held, some of which are local adaptations of foreign formats. It is one of the most commercially successful formats on Argentine television.

concept

In the original version from 2005, competitions were held in which normal people could compete against each other in different disciplines, such as skill, singing, dance or humor. These were evaluated by a jury and won prizes in several rounds.

In 2006 the concept was slightly modified by introducing the two segments Bailando por un Sueño (dancing for a dream) and Cantando por un Sueño (singing for a dream), which alternated in the show. These segments are based on a concept adapted by the Mexican production company Televisa , which originally goes back to the British game show Strictly Come Dancing .

An amateur dancer or singer appears in a duo with a celebrity and is evaluated by a jury, the participants with the worst grades are nominated and can be selected from the show by the audience. After several rounds in which different dance and music styles have to be presented, a winner is determined. The winner receives a dream come true, for example a candidate in 2006 wanted a new house for his grandmother. The format of such dance and singing competitions, which is very popular worldwide, has been changed to showmatch with humorous elements, so conflicts were staged between celebrities and jury members in order to increase the attractiveness for the audience. This is one of the reasons why the show was often a topic in the Argentine tabloid media .

In 2007 there was another change to the concept. The singing competition was canceled and replaced by a figure skating competition ( Patinando por un Sueño ). In addition, the dance competition was modified to include more erotic elements such as pole dance and striptease . Because of the strict Argentine television standards , this brought some fines from the state broadcasting authority COMFER .
