Canal 13 (called el trece ) is an Argentine television broadcasting network. The station is headquartered in Buenos Aires . Outside of this province, he broadcasts a large part of his program on partner stations that also broadcast his own productions.

Canal 13 began broadcasting in 1960 when it was operated by a consortium of Time Life , the Cuban company Goar Mestre and CBS . In 1974 the station was nationalized and placed under the control of the Navy during the military dictatorship in 1976. In 1983 it stayed with the Argentine state until it was privatized again in 1990. The operating company Arte Radiotelevisivo Argentina SA , also known under the name Artear , still holds the license to this day; its largest shareholder is the Clarín group. Since 1996 the production company Pol-Ka has also been involved in Canal 13, which produces a large part of the shows.

Today Canal 13 is traditionally the second most important broadcaster behind Telefe in terms of viewership and advertising revenue , as it has a nationwide network of partner broadcasters. Quota wars are sometimes fought between the two channels, in which prime-time programs (in Argentina between 8 p.m. and midnight) compete against each other.

The program is characterized by a mix of telenovelas , entertainment programs ( reality TV and game shows), four news programs per day and feature films on weekends.
