Clarín (Argentina)
Clarín ( Spanish for flugelhorn ) is a national Argentinean newspaper published in Buenos Aires . With a circulation of 384,608 (average) with a maximum of 768,056 on Sundays, it is the most widely read daily newspaper in the country.
The newspaper was founded on August 28, 1945. In the early days it supported the so-called desarrollistas , a trend that favored rapid industrial development of the country.
Clarín has been published in tabloid format since the beginning , making it one of the first newspapers in the world to use this format.
Clarín group
The Clarín Group ( Grupo Clarín ) is the financially strongest media group in Argentina and owns u. a. the television channel Canal 13 , the cable operator Cablevisión, the sports newspaper Olé and the free newspaper La Razón . She is also involved in the newspapers Los Andes ( Mendoza ) and La Voz del Interior ( Córdoba ); At times the left-wing newspaper Página / 12 also belonged to the group . The group had a market share of over 70 percent in pay-TV in 2009.
Due to the size and power of Clarín, the audiovisual communications control authority AFSCA is working towards downsizing the media group on the basis of the 2009 Media Act. After years of litigation, Clarín agreed in 2014 to issue licenses in order not to exceed the limit of radio and television channels per provider set by law. The Spanish Telefónica is one of the owners of the Clarín group . Until mid-2012, the investment bank Goldman Sachs also held a 9.11% stake in the Clarin Group. Goldman Sachs sold its shares after the group was defeated in an Argentine court.
