The Amagi was built by Mitsubishi in the Nagasaki naval shipyard . As the second ship in the Unryū class, its lightweight design was also based on the aircraft carriers of the Hiryū class.
The Amagi half overturned after American air raids in July 1945 (photo taken in August 1946)
The ship was put into service in August 1944, but never took on any tasks other than air defense in the Kure area , where it was sunk on July 27, 1945 in an air raid. It was lifted in late 1946 and broken up the following year.
