The Amalthea Peak is a 775 m high mountain in the Ganymede Heights on Alexander Island west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises at the western end of the Himalia Ridge not far from the head of the Ablation Valley .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2002 after Jupiter's moon Amalthea .
