Amarcolitanus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amarcolitanus is the name of a Gallic (healing) god who, according to the Interpretatio Romana, is equated with Apollo . Amarcolitanus could mean “whose gaze is wide”, “the one who looks far”.

His name is mentioned on a dedicatory inscription from Branges in the Haeduer area , Roman province of Lugudunensis . He is also associated with the Celtic healing gods Grannus and Mogon ( Granus Mogounus Amarcolitanus ) on inscriptions in Monthelon (Saône-et-Loire) and Horbourg-Wihr ( Département Haut-Rhin ) , which suggests a healing god in him.
