Amateurs in Space is a Danish documentary directed by Max Kestner from 2016 .

content

The film portrays the founding of the amateur space association Copenhagen Suborbitals . The main characters in the documentary are Peter Madsen and Kristian von Bengtson . Kestner shows the boyish technology fans who decide to be the first amateurs to shoot a person into space with the help of parts from the hardware store. At the beginning it shows their tireless commitment to the project and the upcoming rocket launch in 2013. In the course of the film, however, rifts appear between the two inventors, and Madsen's sociopathic traits become apparent. Madsen begins to berate helpers for failing to clean up the hangar, and when Bengtson takes over the position of flight director, the friendship between the two begins to break. Madsen accuses Bengtson of having seized power and devoting himself to the project with too little enthusiasm (“Only employees have the weekend off!”). In the end, Madsen leaves the joint project.

The film was well received by critics.
