Amaury Epaminondas Junqueira (born December 25, 1935 in Barretos , São Paulo , † March 31, 2016 ), also known by the nickname Mareco , was a Brazilian football player who was called up in the attacking midfield and in the assault line . He spent the first half of his playing career in Brazil and the second half in Mexico .

Life

Amaury Mareco began his professional career in 1956 with CR Vasco da Gama and then moved to São Paulo FC , where he was under contract for five years and won the São Paulo state championship in his first season (1957) .

At the end of 1961 or in the course of 1962 he moved to the Mexican club Club Deportivo Oro , which at that time was the strongest city rival of the "serial champion" Chivas Guadalajara . In the 1962/63 season, the CD Oro and the champion of the past four years, Chivas, fought head-to-head for the title that lasted until the last day of the game, when the two clubs faced each other in a direct duel . Oro won the game 1-0 and thus for the first and only time the soccer championship of Mexico. With his 19 goals, Amaury not only played a decisive role in this success, but also became the top scorer in the Mexican Primera División . Also in the seasons 1964/65 (also in the service of CD Oro) and 1966/67 (for his next club Toluca ) Amaury was - with 21 goals this season - top scorer in the Mexican league. He decisively helped Deportivo Toluca FC to their first championship title in professional football .
