Amazon basin (aquarium hobby)
In aquaristics , an Amazon basin is a special freshwater aquarium in the form of a biotope aquarium , in which the conditions of the aquatic world of the Amazon and its tributaries are imitated.
Only animal species that are native to the Amazon region are kept in such a basin. These include certain species of tetra , cichlids such as the well-known angelfish and discus fish . These may catfish as armored catfish and armored catfish are added.
In such an aquarium, purists only keep plants that are found in the Amazon. For example, Brazilian pennywort , tropical pondweed , Brazilian milfoil and Echinodorus are used .
