Ambatofinandrahana is one of four districts in the Amoron'i Mania region, in the Fianarantsoa province in the central highlands of Madagascar. The district is on average at 1500 m altitude. In Ambatofinandrahana, almost 116,000 people live on an area of ​​10,386 km².

The region is rich in minerals . So far there have been around 70 registered finds (as of 2013). So could the Itremo massif among other quartz in different training variants , different apatite , beryl and tourmaline , which the mica belonging muscovite or its green variety Fuchsite and the very rare berlinite be found. The minerals are mined by locals from the region.

The Ambatofinandrahana district, more precisely the “Sakavalana” gemstone mine near Mandrosonoro , is also a type locality for the mineral pezzottaite .
