Rolf Degen (doctor)

Rolf Degen (born July 25, 1926 in Chemnitz ; † August 3, 2012 ) was a German neuropediatrist and epileptologist .

Life

After studying medicine in Leipzig, Degen worked at the university children's clinic there from 1955 to 1973. First he completed his specialist training, in 1964 he completed his habilitation .

From 1966 to 1973 he was head of the department for neuropediatrics in Leipzig, after his escape to the Federal Republic of Germany from 1973 to 1991 head of the EEG department and consultation hours for children with seizures at the special hospital Bethel (today Epilepsy Center Bethel, Von Bodelschwinghsche Stiftungen Bethel ) with construction of a sleep laboratory.

In 1974 he was appointed associate professor for paediatrics at the Münster University Hospital .

Degen's scientific focus was on the genetics of epilepsies and the influence of sleep or lack of sleep on epileptic seizures. He was (co-) author of numerous articles in specialist journals or book chapters, in addition Degen was author or (co-) editor of 12 books:
