The Ambedkar Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in the Indian capital New Delhi . The stadium with a capacity of 20,000 is mostly used for football events.

The stadium, named after the politician Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar , is the home of the second division soccer club New Delhi Heroes FC and is also an alternative stadium for the first Indian soccer league . Football competitions such as the Durand Cup also take place here.

The national team of India also plays international matches at the Ambedkar Stadium. After renovations in 2007, the stadium hosted the Nehru Cup in August of the same year . In the final of the competition, India defeated the team from Syria 1-0 and won the tournament. After the original site in Hyderabad had become unplayable, the final and the third place match of the AFC Challenge Cup 2008 were relocated to the New Delhi Stadium. Host India beat Tajikistan 4-1 in front of 10,000 spectators and won the title. In 2009 it hosted the Nehru Cup again. India beat Syria on penalties in the replay of the 2007 final.
