Ambrosius Gander painted the sacristy, the so-called Koburg Chapel, from St. Martin in Gufidaun and created a cycle of frescoes in the Jakobskirche in Tramin , where he paid tribute to his teacher in an inscription. He also made frescos in Mühlbach in the parish church of St. Helena. There is a crucifixion group by him at the Merano hospital church .
style
The work of Ambrosius Gander stands at the transition from the late Gothic to the Renaissance in South Tyrol. The influence of Italian art is noticeable. He is included in the Pustertal painting school grouped around Hans von Bruneck today , painters who, coming from traditional influences, reveal a new Italian style.
Art historical importance
After research had mainly dealt with Hans von Bruneck, in addition to the role as a student, the art-historical significance of Ambrosius Gander for the development of late Gothic art in South Tyrol is now being re-examined.
