Ambrosius Schlumpf (* 1497 in St. Gallen ; † September 6, 1566 ibid) was a Swiss politician and mayor of St. Gallen (Switzerland).

Life

Ambrosius Schlumpf was the son of his father of the same name, the councilor Ambrosius Schlumpf (* unknown; † 1529).

He was a member of the weavers' guild and from 1530 to 1532 guild master.

In 1532 he was elected official mayor , former mayor and imperial bailiff ; He held these offices every three years together with Hans Rainsperg and Heinrich Komer until 1540 and then again, together with Hans Reiner (elected 1549), Ambrosius Aigen (elected 1551) and Kaspar Schlumpf (elected 1562) from 1548 to 1566.

In 1536 he was sent to represent the city of St. Gallen to agree on the First Helvetic Confession .

Ambrosius Schlumpf was married to Barbara Kaiser for the first time in 1518, their children are known by name:

In his second marriage, he was married to Kleophea (* unknown; † September 6, 1566 in St. Gallen), daughter of Heinrich Hochreutiner , from 1535 , her son is known by name:

  • David Schlumpf (* 1545 in St. Gallen; † 1617 ibid), married to Katharina (* 1533 in St. Gallen; † unknown), a daughter of Joachim Haltmeyer

He died of the plague on the same day as his wife.

His grandson of the same name, Ambrosius Schlumpf (1573-1635), was also mayor of St. Gallen from 1620 to 1635.
