Ambulance fee

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The outpatient fee (legal term treatment contribution outpatient clinic ) is a deductible in Austria for the use of a hospital outpatient clinic , which is charged to the insured by the relevant health insurance provider. It was introduced on January 1, 2001 and amounted to 150 schillings with a medical referral, without this 250 schillings , but not more than 1000 schillings per insured person in the calendar year.

The ambulance fee should, according to the Austrian Ministry of Health in the Austrian health system divert from congested, expensive ambulances through to private practice "misguided patient flows". In its steering function, it is similar to the German practice fee .

The outpatient fee was abolished after two decisions of the Constitutional Court on May 1, 2003, among other things because of the effect attributed to it to “deter” socially disadvantaged patients from necessary visits to the doctor. Other problems were the high administrative burden and the many necessary but impractical exceptions.

Up to 60% of the patients in the outpatient departments were there on self-referral in 2017. This is why the reintroduction of the outpatient fee is the subject of recent legal and political discussion.
