The Ameghino Gully is a channel-like canyon on the Nordenskjöld Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It runs in an east-west orientation through the rock foothills on the west side of the Longing Peninsula .
The name of the gorge, given in 1990 by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee , is derived from the nearby Argentine refuge Refugio Ameghino . It is named after the Argentine geologist and anthropologist Florentino Ameghino (1854–1911).
