Ameropa Foundation

The Ameropa Foundation is an international non-profit organization based in Binningen , Switzerland . The foundation was founded in 2001 by Nicole Miescher and Andreas Zivy . The organization pursues humanitarian , educational and agricultural projects, mainly in developing countries .

history

In 2001 Ameropa , a Swiss private company in the agribusiness sector, founded the Ameropa Foundation to support entrepreneurial and social projects mainly in developing countries. The foundation focuses its efforts on sustainable charity programs, especially in Africa and South America. Since it was founded in 2001, over 49 projects have been tackled worldwide. By the end of 2016, the programs had improved the lives of more than 62,000 people, generated over 5,500 jobs, and carried out training programs in which more than 31,000 children and adults participated.

Brazil

The foundation has invested in humanitarian projects in Brazil since its inception. In 2012 the foundation financed the creation of a sports and cultural center called Arena do Morro in Mãe Luiza, Natal and Rio Grande do Norte . The Arena do Morro was planned pro bono by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and has had a major impact on the community since 2014. The project has been featured in various magazines around the world and shown in museums, most recently in the “Building Optimism” exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh. In 2008 the Ameropa Foundation also co-financed ADIC, a school for 300 students in Passo da Patria, a favela at the foot of the Potenji River. The school is still supported by the Ameropa Foundation today. In addition, it is supported by UNESCO in the category "Preparation to the world of work and leadership youth" and by FIFA - Football for Hope . Since 2004 she has been supporting a vocational school for welders, locksmiths and mechanics in Rio das Ostras. Every year around 60 students attend the school's courses free of tuition fees.

Romania

The Ameropa Foundation has been providing humanitarian aid to Roma children in Roșia (Sibiu) since 2013 . In 2013 the organization co-financed a kindergarten and in 2015 the construction of a workshop in which apprentices will be trained in the future.

Uganda

In 2009 the foundation set up the Finem microcredit institute in Kampala . Since 2016, Finem has issued over 2,800 loans that have reached over 6,400 recipients. In 2015, the Ameropa Foundation and Right to Play , an international humanitarian organization, launched the Tusobola project, which means “Together we can achieve it”. The project promotes basic everyday skills in children and young people and is carried out in seven schools in the slums of Kamwookya and Kyebando in Kampala. The program has reached over 3000 children and it is assumed that over 6000 school children will benefit from this education program by 2018, as well as 2400 other children from the surrounding communities.
