Matt Dodson

Matthew "Matt" Dodson (born April 19, 1971 ) is an Australian basketball coach .

career

Dodson played basketball from the age of twelve at the Norwood Flames Basketball Club, a club in the city of Adelaide , later went to the Australian Institute of Sport and was appointed to the Australian junior national team.

As a trainer, Dodson also worked for the Norwood Flames in his home country. He moved to Germany in 2005, his German wife Kristina Barenhoff played in the 2nd basketball league for Quakenbrück and Cologne. Dodson was assistant coach at the regional division UBC Münster and then between January 2007 and 2008 head coach of the DJK Köln-Nord in the 2nd women's division.

In May 2008 Dodson moved to Quakenbrücker TSV and worked there as a youth coach and youth coordinator. Among other things, he was head coach of the second division women's team of the club in the 2008/09 season and between 2009 and 2012 head coach of the Quakenbrücker team in the youth basketball league (NBBL). In addition, he coached other teams in the youth sector and temporarily also the men's team in the major league.

In 2013 he left Quakenbrück and moved back to the Rhineland, where he and Wolfhard Stricker coached the RheinStars Cologne women's team in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2013/14 season . From December 2014 Dodson was assistant coach of the Cologne men's team, first in the regional league, then in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . In addition, from 2014 to 2016 he was the head coach of the U19 team in the NBBL.

When Arne Woltmann was  fired in March 2017, Dodson rose from co- to head coach of the Cologne ProA men. He led the Cologne to playoff participation, there they were eliminated in the first round against the later champions Central German BC . With the signing of the new head coach Denis Wucherer  at the end of May 2017, Dodson returned to the post of assistant.

After Usurer's departure from Cologne after the end of the 2017/18 season and the team's withdrawal to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB , Dodson was promoted again to head coach in mid-May 2018. He missed relegation in the ProB with the Cologne team in the 2018/19 season, so his tenure with the Rhinelanders ended.
