Arne Woltmann
Arne Woltmann (born August 22, 1974 in Bremerhaven ) is a German basketball coach , official and former player.
Career
During his playing career, which began at the age of twelve at 1. BC Bremerhaven, Woltmann played between 1992 and 1996 in the 2. Bundesliga for the Oldenburger TB and from 1996 for TSV Quakenbrück (later Artland Dragons ). With Quakenbrück, the 2.02 meter tall center player made the leap into the Bundesliga in 2003 .
After retiring as a player in 2006, Woltmann took over the position of assistant coach in Quakenbrück under his former team-mate Chris Fleming as boss. He won the 2008 DBB Cup with the Artland Dragons and joined the Brose Baskets Bamberg with Fleming in the 2008/09 season . There he continued to work as Fleming's assistant and contributed to winning the German championship titles in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. In addition, Bamberg won three cup competitions under the direction of Fleming and Woltmann (2010, 2011, 2012). In 2012 he was part of the Oklahoma City Thunder coaching staff during the NBA Summer League . After Fleming's dismissal in Bamberg and the engagement of Andrea Trinchieri as his successor, Woltmann's tenure with the Franks ended in June 2014.
Also in June 2014 he was appointed assistant coach of the German national team and worked in this role first under Emir Mutapčić and then under Fleming.
In June 2015 Woltmann took over the post of head coach at RheinStars Cologne . In their first season in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA , he led the team to twelfth place in the 2015/16 season. In May 2016, in addition to his work in Cologne, he was appointed national coach of the A2 national team and supervised the DBB selection in July 2016 at a tournament in China. His successor in the position of A2 national coach was Mathias Fischer in March 2017 .
Woltmann was released on March 9, 2017 in Cologne. At the time of the separation, the team was in tenth place in the ProA table with twelve wins and 14 defeats and had lost two games in a row.
He returned to his hometown and became managing director of the Bundesliga club Eisbären Bremerhaven on July 1, 2017 . On December 21, 2017, the Eisbären parted ways with head coach Sebastian Machowski , Woltmann took over this position until the end of the 2017/18 season in addition to his duties as managing director. In January 2018 he handed over the position of managing director to Wolfgang Grube and thus fully concentrated on his tasks as a trainer. On December 12, 2018 Woltmann was dismissed as polar bear head coach after four defeats in a row.
In February 2019 Woltmann worked as an assistant coach for the German men's national team and was also part of the coaching staff afterwards. In July 2020 he was announced as the new assistant coach of Thomas Päch at Bundesliga club SC Rasta Vechta , but asked for the cancellation of the working agreement to become Martin Schiller's assistant at Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania .
