Thomas Päch (born October 2, 1982 in San Salvador ) is a German basketball coach. Since summer 2020 he has been the head coach of the Bundesliga club SC Rasta Vechta .

career

Päch was born in San Salvador . His father was working there as a teacher at a German-speaking school. He grew up in Berlin and partly in the United States and Thailand . He learned the sport of basketball at DBV Charlottenburg and took on coaching duties while he was still playing. He also played at VfB Hermsdorf for a while. In 2005, Päch joined Alba Berlin as a trainer , where he worked in the youth sector. He was partly the assistant coach of Henrik Rödl for Alba's second men's team in the first regional league and made it to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB with the team in the 2009/10 season .

In 2010 he moved to TBB Trier together with Rödl , where he was assistant coach under the former national team, as in Berlin. In addition to his coaching duties, Päch played partly as a player at SG DJK / MJC - TBB Trier in the first regional league. In 2015 Päch returned to Alba Berlin and took over the post of assistant coach for the first team in the Bundesliga. When the club split from Ahmet Çakı in April 2017, Päch was appointed head coach until the end of the 2016/17 season. Then he returned to the assistant post. Until the end of the 2018/19 season, he worked as an assistant coach at Alba Berlin for two seasons and then moved to Telekom Baskets Bonn as the new head coach . At the beginning of February 2020, Päch was given leave of absence from the relegation-threatened Bonners (three wins, 14 defeats, penultimate place in the Bundesliga). In July 2020, Rasta Vechta announced Päch's commitment. He received a two-year contract with the Lower Saxony.
