Amewu (* 1983 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ; civil name Amewu Nove ) is a German hip-hop artist from Berlin . Among other things, he is known by the stage name demigod , which he mainly used in earlier freestyle events.

Characteristic of Amewu's rap style is a mixture of texts that are profound in terms of content and sophisticated rap technique with often quickly spoken texts.

origin

Amewu was born and raised in Berlin-Charlottenburg and after a change of school, with which he said he was evicted, he graduated from the Anna Freud High School with a focus on English and psychology. Its name comes from the West African language Ewe .

Artistic career

Both Amewu's first album, Entwicklungshilfe, from 2009, and his second album, Leidkultur, from 2012, received extremely positive reviews. From 2012 or 2013 a phase of about six to seven years followed, in which he did not publish any new solo music and only remained present to the public through features , concerts and interviews, but hardly through social media channels that he had never used often . He justified this phase in a statement dated May 1, 2019, among other things, with an intensive examination of psychological problems that would have plagued him for a long time, an excess of reactions and expectations from the listeners of his music and the fact that he was listening to the music primarily for himself himself and "wasn't necessarily interested in being the new rap star everyone knows." This phase without publication ended on May 10, 2019 with the publication of the song Blut . The song Skalp was released on October 25, 2019 . On July 17, 2020, he released further tracks under the title "2009-2013", which date from 2009 to 2013 and until this publication were only circulated unofficially on YouTube and similar platforms, including Der Gedanke der Tat featuring Chefket and Democrazy .

His music was produced by the music label Edit Entertainment , on which other Berlin rappers, u. a. Team Avantgarde , Gris , Meyah Don and Zenit , released their music until he left the label in the mid-2010s. Since then he has been publishing without a label.
