The Amigoe (German: The Herald) is a daily newspaper in Dutch that has been published in Aruba , Curaçao , Sint Maarten , Bonaire , Sint Eustatius and Saba since January 1884. Amigoe is the oldest newspaper in the Netherlands Antilles and was also the first to appear in Aruba.

history

The newspaper was founded in December 1883 by the Dominican Order on the island of Curaçao and was published twice a week until 1941. Amigoe has been published daily since 1942. The weekly supplement Ñapa appears in the Saturday edition with news and current events about the weekend.

Since 2013, there has been an edition of Amigoe Express in English in tabloid format on Curaçao with short local and international news with a special focus on entertainment, events, activities and attractions for tourists.

The publisher is Uitgeverij Amigoe NV, based in Curaçao. The daily newspaper is distributed by Districo NV, which is responsible for the daily distribution of the newspaper. The newspaper also publishes a digital edition on its website.

The editorial team consists of an editor-in-chief and 14 salaried editors, as well as freelancers and photographers. The advertising department currently employs three people.

Trivia

On the island of Aruba, Amigoe is the only Dutch evening newspaper that is delivered from 4 p.m. or is available in newsagents.
