Aminopenicillins
Aminopenicillins are drugs that are used as antibiotics . They are characterized by the addition of an amino group to the benzyl residue of penicillin . This chemical modification leads to an expansion of the spectrum of activity. The most important representatives of the aminopenicillins are amoxicillin and ampicillin .
Aminopenicillins are not β-lactamase stable. Their effectiveness against gram-positive bacteria is only about half to a fifth of that of benzylpenicillin , but they are about four to ten times more effective against gram-negative germs. Aminopenicillins are well tolerated and can also be used orally .
Aminopenicillins are:
Acylaminopenicillins are chemically similar, but by expanding the spectrum they also have an effect on gram-negative and anaerobic bacteria.
