Amon G. Carter
Amon Giles Carter Sr. (born December 11, 1879 in Crafton , Wise County , Texas , † June 23, 1955 in Fort Worth , Texas) was an American newspaper publisher. The founder and editor of the daily Fort Worth Star-Telegram was a sponsor of the Texas city of Fort Worth.
In 1928 Carter donated funds to build the Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
The Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, opened in 1961, goes back to a legacy in his will. The museum houses, among other things, Carter's collection of paintings and sculptures by the "Western" artists Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell .
Carter is buried in the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Fort Worth.
