Amphioctopus arenicola is a medium-sized cephalopod fromthe amphioctopus genus . He lives in the Pacific Ocean . Christine L. Huffard and Eric Hochberg first describedthe species in 2005.

Amphioctopus arenicola reaches a mantle length of seven centimeters and a total length of 40 centimeters. It weighs up to 245 grams.
In male Amphioctopus arenicola , the third right tentacle forms the Hectocotylus . There are 160 to 210 suction cups on each normal arm . The hectocotyle arm has about 100 suction cups. The mating organ is small and 2.5 to 3.5% as long as the hectocotylus.
The gills have nine to eleven lamellae per demibranch .
Way of life
distribution and habitat
The range of Amphioctopus arenicola is limited to the Hawaiian Islands . The species is most common off the island of Oahu , where it occurs in shallow coastal waters on sandy substrate at depths between 1 and 80 meters.
Reproduction
The females of Amphioctopus arenicola lay eggs two to three millimeters in diameter. The young are the size of plankton .
