The Amsterdam Time (AZ) or Dutch Time , Dutch Amsterdamse Tijd (AT) , was used in the Netherlands from 1909 to 1940.

The actual exact time since May 1, 1909 was GMT + 0h 19m 32.13s ( Greenwich Mean Time was then universal time ), that is the mean local time of the meridian of the Westertoren ( 52 ° 22 ′ 28 ″ N, 4 ° 53 ′ 2 ″ E ) in Amsterdam .

On March 17, 1937, the time was simplified to UT + 0h 20m (since 1928 Universal Time has been universal time ). Since then, people have also spoken of Loenense Tijd or Gorinchemse Tijd , because 5 ° East corresponds exactly to the places Loenen aan de Vecht and Gorinchem .

When the Netherlands was occupied by Germany during the Second World War , the “Berlin Time” (meaning: Central European Time , CET) was adopted on May 16, 1940 and has been retained to this day.

From 1916 onwards, the Amsterdam period propagated a summer time, the Amsterdamse Zomertijd (AZT) , 'Amsterdam Summer Time'. It was regulated after publication in the Staatsblad , from 1918 onwards between March 31st and October 1st, after 1922 between March 18th and October 9th. The time was changed from 02:00 to 03:00 and vice versa.
