In 1909 the Klues residential area of the Niehuus community was incorporated into Flensburg .

After the referendum in Schleswig , the communities except for Kupfermühle and Niehuus were ceded to Denmark in 1920. In the process, uninhabited areas from Kupfermühle and Niehuus will also come to Denmark. In return, uninhabited areas of Krusau will remain in Germany and will be incorporated into the Niehuus community. The district is dissolved and Kupfermühle and Niehuus move to the Harrislee district .
