Pietro Aldi (born July 12, 1852 in Manciano ; † May 18, 1888 there ) was an Italian painter .

Life

Aldi was born the son of Olinto Aldi and Teresa Leoni in Manciano on Via Curtatone. At the age of eleven he attended the seminary of Montefiascone . He learned his craft from 1864 at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Siena , where he was a student of Luigi Mussini (* 1813 in Berlin ; † 1888 in Florence ) from 1870 . In 1874 he won with the painting sconfitta di Corradino a Tagliacozzo the scholarship Alunnato Biringucci . Here Amos Cassioli and Cesare Maccari were the judges. The scholarship enabled Aldi to stay in Rome and Venice . In Rome he attracted attention with the painting Buoso da Duara , painted in 1878 , which he showed at an exhibition in the Piazza del Popolo (is now in the town hall of Manciano). He had his greatest success in 1883 at an exhibition in the Capitoline Museums in Rome, when he presented the work Le ultime ore della libertà senese (The last hours of Senese freedom) (located today in the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex , Sala San Pio, in Siena). His most successful year was 1887, when he was able to create three frescoes in the Palazzo Pubblico . He wanted to contribute the work Nerone contempla l'incendio di Roma for the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889 , but died on May 18, 1888 in Manciano of a lung disease (is now in the Museum of Santa Maria della Scala, Sala San Pio, Siena).
