Niehuus ( Danish Nyhus ) is a small village in the Schleswig-Flensburg district on the German-Danish border near Padborg ( German  Pattburg ) and Bov (Bau) , northwest of Flensburg . The place is part of the parish Harrislee .

history

middle Ages

The village of Niehuus was first mentioned in 1371. It got its name after Niehuus Castle , which stood there in the Middle Ages in the Krusau tunnel valley . The lake near the village was named Niehuussee .

17th to 19th century

School lessons are said to have been given in Niehuus for the first time since 1741. A “shepherd's hut” is said to have served as a training location.

With the creation of the province of Schleswig-Holstein , Niehuus, like Harrislee and Kupfermühle, became an independent municipality. The district of Flensburg was set up, to which the district of Bau was soon subordinated, to which the municipality of Niehuus was assigned.

Between 1887 and 1895 Niehuus ran a volunteer fire brigade together with the village of Bau .

20th century

In 1904 the Niehuus Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded, which still exists today. In 1912 the Niehuuser School burned down due to a chimney fire. In the following year, the school building, still preserved today, was put into operation not far from the old school location.

Until the referendum in Schleswig in 1920, Niehuus (including water life and a part of Klues ) and the neighboring copper mill belonged to the parish of Bau . As a result of the vote, today's German-Danish border was created with the customs settlement east of Niehuus on the German side.

In 1938 during the Nazi era , on the orders of the President of the Province of Schleswig-Holstein, the localities of Niehuus (with 380 people) and Kupfermühle (with 500 people) were incorporated into Harrislee (previously 2000 inhabitants). The measure ordered in a letter dated February 28, 1938 led to the abolition of the honorary mayors of the three affected places on October 1, 1938. The honorary mayors and local citizens were not asked about the incorporation. The amalgamation of the localities to form the greater community of Harrislee, which was carried out as part of the harmonization , led to the fact that a full-time mayor's post was made possible, which was then awarded to the NSDAP party member, the SA standard leader Peter Ingwersen, who held the office until the surrender . The territorial reform was not withdrawn after the war, so that since then Niehuus no longer has a separate mayor.

On the day of national mourning in 1955, the war memorial was inaugurated for those who fell in World War II . (The complex, which still exists today, is connected to the local memorial of the First World War and the Battle of Bau .) In the mid-1950s, the Niehuus chapel with its cemetery was built . In 1967 the Niehuuser School was closed. The village's 600th anniversary was celebrated in 1971. A memorial stone was set up in the village center. Bus line 8 of the municipal transport company , which had existed since the summer of 1987 and connected Niehuus with the central bus station , was discontinued on December 31, 1988. In 1996 the 625th anniversary of the village was celebrated.

present

Niehuus can be reached via a few small streets. The most important road is Niehuuser Straße, which leads to the Flensburger Bau'er Landstraße . Shortly before Flensburg, the Slukefterbogen road branches off, which continues to the Flensburg suburb of Harrislee . Various hiking trails such as the Way of St. James lead through the village. Furthermore, the Gendarmenweg leads past Niehuus.

The small cemetery chapel with the associated cemetery, which is registered as a cultural monument, is located away from the village on Niehuuser Straße . The Niehuuser fire brigade has been cooperating with the Danish neighboring town of Bov for 50 years.

The exact number of inhabitants is not shown and is added to the total population of the community Harrislee .

various

  • The development belonging to Niehuus on Niehuuser Straße, from No. 22 upwards and on Alten Kirchenweg, belongs to the so-called "Niehuusfeld". The development is more extensive and lies in the field area of the place.
