District court at Sachsenplatz
The district court at Sachsenplatz is a courthouse at Lothringer Strasse 1 in 01069 Dresden, where the Dresden Regional Court (LG) is now also based.
history
The district court on Sachsenplatz was built in neo -Renaissance style between 1888 and 1892 according to plans by Arwed Roßbach as the Royal Saxon District Court. The originally four-winged building with its façade made of Niedergrund sandstone is bordered in the north by Roßbachstrasse and in the south by Ziegelstrasse. The Dresden Vogelwiese took place in this area from the 16th to the 19th century, i.e. before the extensive development . Elias Cemetery is located to the south . The building portal is flanked by the two allegorical figures “Truth” and “Justice” by Johannes Schilling . The rear, western wing of the building was not rebuilt after its destruction in 1945. As a result of the air raids on Dresden , the row of houses on the opposite side of Lothringer Strasse also disappeared, which is why the main facade of the district court building with the portal can also be seen from Sachsenallee. The building was the Regional Court Dresden East and since 1956 the District Court of Dresden . Between 1993 and 1999, the Dresden Higher Regional Court also had its seat here.
The building has been structurally connected to the newly built district court since 2012. The two parts of the building form a structural unit and are completely accessible from the inside. There are now two entrances.
