Amunds mosse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amunds mosse , also known as Kvistorpsmossen , is a bog on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea .

The moor in the center of the island, west of Åstad and southwest of Kvistorp , is rich in limestone . Drainage work was carried out in the swamp area . In the northern part there are moist, free grass areas, some of which are cultivated. The southern part is dominated by Schneidried . Only a few wooded islands stand out. Large parts of the area are designated as a bird sanctuary , mainly because of the Montagu's Harrier that breeds here .

In addition to the Schneidried, there are also soils with a rust-red head and orchids that are under protection . The agile frog is typical of the fauna .

The famous prehistoric castle Ismantorps borg is located southwest of the moor .
