The Amundsen Icefall is a steep and rugged glacial break in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . In the Queen Maud Mountains , it is part of the Axel Heiberg Glacier where that flows from the polar plateau between Mount Fridtjof Nansen and Mount Don Pedro Christophersen .
The southern group of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (1961–1962) named it after the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen (1872–1928), who had chosen the Axel Heiberg Glacier as the ascent route on his way to the geographic South Pole .
