The Amundsen Ridges are deep sea ridges in the Southern Ocean far off the coast of West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land .

They are named after the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen (1872-1928), who, along with four companions on December 14, 1911 according to with dog sleds carried out march across the Ross Ice Shelf, the Axel Heiberg Glacier and the central Polar Plateau was the first to reached the geographic south pole .
