The Horrenbach is a left tributary of the Urft near Gemünd , a district of the Schleiden municipality in the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia .
geography
course
The Horrenbach rises in the nature reserve Horrenbachtal northeast of Herhahn , which is southwest of the Gemünd district. In this area it flows through a near-natural brook valley, which is characterized in the upper reaches by extensively managed, but partly fallow wetland and poor grassland. From there it runs in a north-easterly direction to Malsbenden, where it crosses under Schöttgasse. In the lower reaches it runs through a wood of willows and alder banks as well as two fish ponds. North of Schöttgasse, the stream runs northwards. To the west is a sewage treatment plant of the Eifel-Rur water association. The brook crosses under the Bruchstrasse and finally drains into the Urft .
Catchment area
The 1 km² catchment area is located in the Northern Eifel and is drained to the North Sea via Urft, Rur , Maas and Hollands Diep .
It borders
- in the east to that of the Urft tributary Braubach
- and in the west to that of the Laßbach , also a Urft tributary.
The southern edge of the catchment area is characterized by agriculturally used areas and in the source area there is extensively farmed, partially fallow and species-rich grassland. The middle is mostly wooded with small-scale hardwood in the upper slope areas mixed with larger spruce stands. At the lower reaches of the western valley slope there is a larger sessile oak forest and wet meadows dominate in the eastern estuary area .
The catchment area is characterized by clay and silt stones, sandstones and quartzites from the Lower Devonian. Clay-silty brown earth with only a small amount of usable field capacity has deposited above it, and gley soils with a very high and usable field capacity dominate in the direct basin and in the estuary area .
