Aníbal Domingo Fernández (born January 9, 1957 in Quilmes , Buenos Aires Province , Argentina ) is an Argentine politician of the Partido Justicialista , lawyer and certified accountant. His political circle of friends included Presidents Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner . Under the three presidents Eduardo Duhalde , Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner he held several positions in the cabinet and was active in various ministries for more than nine years.

Political career

In 1991 he became mayor of Quilmes. In 1994 he was arrested for forging documents and then went into hiding for 48 hours.

When he was later appointed Minister of Justice (2008), critics took the view that a Minister of Justice should not have a criminal record. After the government alliance was defeated in parliamentary elections in 2009, Sergio Massa resigned from his position as head of cabinet, which Fernández took over, who at the time was Minister of Justice. He held this position from July 8, 2009 until the end of his term on December 10, 2011 and was replaced by Juan Manuel Abal Medina . In 2015 he was defeated in the election for governor of the province of Buenos Aires.

additional

In 2006 Fernández - at that time Minister of the Interior - described the official crime statistics as "falsified" and "unofficial". In 2008, he described Martín Redrado as stupid and moody after he asked him to repeal the decree on his resignation. After the Peruvian Nobel Prize laureate Mario Vargas Llosa and the Spanish philosopher Fernando Savater publicly criticized the Argentine government in 2011, he insulted them with “You say nonsense” and “What is it to you that happens in another country”.

Books

He published his first book, “Zonceras argentinas y otras yerbas”, in 2011.
