politics

In the 2005 elections, Massa won a seat in the House of Representatives on the list of Frente para la Victoria of then President Nestor Kirchner . At the request of the president, however, he renounced this seat in order to remain head of social security.

On December 10, 2007, Massa was elected mayor of Tigre.

After a vote defeat in July 2008, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner dismissed her head of cabinet Alberto Fernández and gave this post to Sergio Massa. This had to let his office as mayor rest. After the mid-term elections in July 2009, which were disappointing for the Frente para la Victoria , Massa resigned as head of cabinet and from then on worked again as mayor of Tigre.

In the 2013 House of Representatives elections, Massa ran his own list, Frente Renovador . He immediately succeeded in gaining the most votes in the country's largest province - Buenos Aires. He remained a member of parliament until 2017. In the 2015 presidential elections , he stood for the newly founded alliance Una nueva Alternativa and won 21.4% of the votes in the first ballot. As third place behind Daniel Scioli and Mauricio Macri , he did not reach the runoff election.

In 2017 he ran unsuccessfully for a post in the Senate. In 2019 he decided to join the electoral alliance Frente de Todos with the Frente Renovador and to support the ultimately victorious candidacy of Alberto Fernández and Cristina Fernández. Since December 2019 he has been Chairman of the House of Commons ( Cámara de Diputados ).
