Frente para la Victoria ( FPV , Spanish for front for victory ) is a party alliance in Argentina that belongs to the center-left spectrum and includes part of today's manifestations of Peronism . After Néstor Kirchner's election victory in 2003 until the end of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's presidency in 2015, the alliance was considered to be the strongest political force in the country. At the time, it held an absolute majority of the seats in the House of Representatives and Senate in Congress, along with its allies. In the 2019 presidential election , the alliance no longer took part and numerous supporters united in the Frente de Todos .

Organization and structure

The loose party alliance, which does not have the status of a fixed party confederation, which is possible in Argentina , but is newly registered as an alliance ( list association ) at every election , consists mainly of the provincial associations of the Peronist party Partido Justicialista (PJ), which the government policy of Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner supported. In addition, the Partido de la Victoria , which was founded in 2003 to consolidate the alliance, and the KOLINA party, which was founded in 2010, continue to belong to the Frente para la Victoria.

In addition, the alliance is supported by changing small and regional parties , including since 2011 the third largest Argentine party in terms of membership, Partido Frente Grande , which was the main actor in the alliance Frente País Solidario . Individual politicians and provincial associations of the former Unión Cívica Radical people's party had also temporarily joined the FPV. In elections, the FPV often competes under its own logo as well as under the official PJ logo.

Many organizations closely associated with the party alliance and the Kirchner couple's government policy, which is known as Kirchnerismo , are organized in the Unidos y Organizados political front founded in 2012 on the initiative of Cristina Kirchner , including the important Peronist youth organization La Cámpora .

history

The FPV was founded at the federal level in 2003 on the occasion of the presidential elections. Due to differences over the presidential candidate, the Partido Justicialista could not stand for the election as a whole and therefore put up three different lists. The supporters of Néstor Kirchner, the then governor of the province of Santa Cruz , traded under the name Frente para la Victoria, which Kirchner had used in the provincial elections in Santa Cruz since 1991. After the election, which Kirchner won, the party remained fragmented. The Frente para la Victoria also competed in the 2005 parliamentary elections and the 2007 presidential elections and won both elections with confidence.

From 2008, following the conflict between the government and the agricultural associations , leading politicians of the Partido Justicialista increasingly distanced themselves from the Kirchner government. These allied under the catchphrase Peronismo Federal and also founded an electoral alliance, Compromiso Federal . The split between the FPV and Peronismo Federal persisted in the following years. In the presidential elections in 2019, the alliance no longer ran, instead, many of the supporters and members united in the ultimately victorious alliance Frente de Todos .

profile

The FPV is often equated with the left wing of the PJ, which is oriented towards social democracy , although conservative politicians such as Gildo Insfrán , Guillermo Moreno and José Alperovich as well as economic liberals such as Amado Boudou also appear in the alliance . According to the program, the alliance advocates expanded federalism, social security and legal security as well as a neo-Keynesian economic plan to promote domestic companies.
