American Murder Mystery (Original title: An American Murder Mystery ) is an American crime film - documentary series that from September 2016 to August 2018 American US on the transmitter Investigation Discovery aired.
The German-language first broadcast took place from May 2017 to May 2019 on the German channel TLC .
Since December 2018, the documentary series has been continued with the offshoot An ID Murder Mystery .
concept
The documentary series deals with a controversial crime or murder case each season that has caused a sensation among the American population. Among other things, all available information is examined and questionable motives are questioned. Possible events are reconstructed, previously unpublished image and audio material is shown and relatives, investigators and journalists are interviewed on the case.
production
American Murder Mystery was a joint production by Jupiter Entertainment and American Media for the television channel Investigation Discovery since 2017 . From 2016 to 2017, the production company Weinstein Television was also a co-producer of the documentary series. Due to the Weinstein scandal , the TV series was no longer co-produced by Weinstein Television from the special episode Scott Peterson: An American Murder Mystery in November 2017 . Six seasons as well as a one-hour and two two-hour special episodes were produced and broadcast. Since December 2018, the documentary series has been continued with the offshoot An ID Murder Mystery .
Each season was produced as a separate event mini- series. They each contained three episodes, each about 44 minutes in length.

From September 12, 2016 to August 20, 2018, the documentary series was broadcast on the US station Investigation Discovery . Each three-part season was shown on three days in a row. Exceptions are seasons three and six. The latter aired within two days. The former, however, was broadcast on the US broadcaster TLC in one day.
German-speaking area
The German-language first broadcast took place from May 11, 2017 to May 23, 2019 on the German channel TLC . The translation and broadcast did not follow the original classification of the episodes. In addition, the two two-hour special episodes were each shown in two one-hour episodes.
