Ana de Palacio
Ana Isabel de Palacio del Valle-Lersundi (born July 22, 1948 in Madrid ) was the Spanish Foreign Minister in the José María Aznar government from July 9, 2002 to April 16, 2004 , making her the first woman to head Spanish diplomacy.
She completed her university education in law, politics and sociology, worked as a lawyer for several years before she was elected to the European Parliament for the Partido Popular (PP) in 1994.
Here she later headed the Interior Committee and represented Spain in the Presidium of the Constitutional Convention.
She is a member of the European Leadership Network .
Ana Palacio's sister is the now deceased, former EU Commissioner Loyola de Palacio del Valle-Lersundi.
