Anacleto Augusto de Medeiros (born July 13, 1866 in Paquetá , † August 14, 1907 ibid) was a Brazilian musician and one of the most important composers of choro .

Life

Anacleto Augusto de Medeiros was the son of a freed slave. At the age of 9 he began to study music intensively. He learned from the master Antônio dos Santos Bocot in the Banda do Arsenal de Guerra do Rio de Janeiro .

In addition to his work as a printer , he attended the conservatory. He played various wind instruments , composed and directed instrumental ensembles such as the Clube Musical Guttemberg or the Banda da Sociedade Recreio Musical Paquetaense .

At the age of 30 he was already known as a conductor and composer. Under his direction, the Banda do Corpo de Bombeiros (Orchestra of the Fire Brigade Corps ) became so famous that they belonged to the groups that took part in the first recordings for Casa Edison in 1902 . The number of shots, e.g. B. also for Odeon , grew over time to an impressive number of over 200.

The music of Anacleto Augusto de Medeiros also inspired various other composers in their work, such as Heitor Villa-Lobos in his Choros or Radamés Gnattali in the third movement of his Suite Retratos . This marks its importance for Brazilian music .
